Over the last year Down and Out Workshop has been acting as the curating entity for the Hat Rac Fine Art Gallery at 1714 Franklin St in Oakland, CA. We are a three person team of active artists interested in hosting art shows and events that spotlight the artists and their work the way we would want our own shows and work treated. This concept of treatment and presentation is central to our mission and because of that we work to have very artist centric shows that supports the artists through space use, opening shows, events throughout the month, publicity, and representation.
Our three member team consists of husband and wife, Peggy and Shawn Murphy, and their dear friend, Sean Pete. Each of the three members actively works as artists while tirelessly working to bring cohesive and expertly curated art shows.
Sean Pete, by day is a design extraordinaire working in web and print design, and by night and weekend he is an abstract artist working primarily in oil. Also, a prolific and for-hire photographer, Sean Pete has graced folks with his photographic talents as an event photographer, food photographer, and portraiture photographer for years. Available for design and photography work, more about Sean Pete can be seen here: http://seanpete.com.
Shawn Murphy is a self-employed artist, who creates abstract works in metal, paint, and mixed media by day, and by night his alter ego is a prolific street artist. Shawn primarily uses reclaimed materials to create his pieces, such as discarded spray paint cans he picks up from the railroad tracks and turns into his large abstract works. Shawn is available to do custom pieces, commission and gallery shows.
Peggy Murphy has an eclectic background including degrees in environmental science, visual communications, and museum and gallery practices and a work history ranging from Google to the medical marijuana industry. However she is at her best when she is creating, whether she is silversmithing a one of a kind piece of jewelry, photographing the beauty found in everyday items, or whipping together a graphic design project. Peggy is available for custom jewelry design, graphic design and photography work.
